What Is Uma Musume Affinity? A Complete Guide

In Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, the Affinity (Compatibility) system is one of the most critical mechanics in Career Mode. When you begin a career run, you choose two Legacy Uma Musume who act as your trainee’s “parents.” These characters don’t just contribute stats — their affinity score with your trainee determines how likely they are to pass down valuable Sparks during Inspiration Events.

The Three Affinity Ranks

Symbol Name Score Threshold Effect
â–² Triangle Below 80 pts Low chance of extra Spark inheritance; avoid if possible
○ Circle 80 – 149 pts Decent Spark inheritance; acceptable for most career runs
â—Ž Double Circle 150+ pts Best chance at pink/white/green Sparks; the goal for competitive play

How Affinity Is Calculated

The total affinity score is the sum of several relationship components:

  • Main ↔ Legacy 1 and Main ↔ Legacy 2: Base compatibility points from character relationships (historical bonds, shared aptitudes, dormitory/class ties, and lore connections).
  • Legacy 1 ↔ Sub-Legacy 1-1 and Legacy 1 ↔ Sub-Legacy 1-2: Grandparent compatibility boosts Legacy 1’s contribution.
  • Legacy 2 ↔ Sub-Legacy 2-1 and Legacy 2 ↔ Sub-Legacy 2-2: Same for Legacy 2’s grandparents.
  • G1 Race Bonus: When two characters in a parent-child pair have won the same G1 race, they gain +3 pts per shared race. Four pairs × multiple shared G1s can add over 100 bonus points.

Tips for Reaching Double Circle â—Ž

  • Pick Legacies who share the same surface aptitude (Turf or Dirt) as your trainee — mismatches sharply lower base compatibility.
  • Characters with historical rivalries or real-world bloodline connections often have high preset base scores.
  • Stack G1 wins on your veteran Legacies. Having all four parent/grandparent slots win the same G1 races is the fastest path to 150+ points.
  • Aim for your first Legacy to have at least â—‹ Circle before committing; the Double Circle calculation only fully appears after both Legacy slots are filled.
  • Characters sharing a classroom or dormitory receive a hidden relationship bonus in the compatibility matrix.

Why Use This Calculator?

Manually cross-referencing compatibility between 50+ Uma Musume characters across five slots is impractical. This affinity calculator lets you model your entire Legacy family tree — Main Uma, both parents, and all four grandparents — and see the combined score in real time. Toggle G1 race wins to see exactly how much the bonus pool contributes, and instantly identify which combinations unlock the coveted Double Circle rank.

Frequently Asked Questions

Affinity (also called Compatibility) is a numerical score that measures how well your trainee Uma Musume bonds with her Legacy characters (parents and grandparents). A higher affinity score means a better Affinity Rank (Triangle → Circle → Double Circle), which directly increases the probability of inheriting additional Sparks during Inspiration Events in Career Mode.
Based on community research and data-mined values, you need approximately 150 or more total affinity points to reach the Double Circle (◎) rank. Circle (○) requires roughly 80–149 points. Anything below 80 results in a Triangle (▲). This calculator uses these community-verified thresholds.
Yes. When two characters in the same parent-grandparent pairing have both won the same G1 race, that pair earns +3 affinity points per shared race. Since there are five possible pairs (Parent A ↔ Parent B, Parent A ↔ Sub-1, Parent A ↔ Sub-2, Parent B ↔ Sub-3, Parent B ↔ Sub-4), and many G1 races exist, stacking shared wins is one of the most powerful ways to push a marginal combination to Double Circle.
No. Affinity is based on the inherent relationship values between characters and is completely independent of which training scenario you choose. Whether you’re playing URA Finale, Grand Masters, MANT, or any other mode, the affinity score between two given characters is always the same.
No. All versions (costumes, seasonal variants, alternate cards) of the same Uma Musume character share the same compatibility values. Special Week’s summer card has the same affinity relationships as her standard card. The underlying character identity is what matters, not the specific card used.
Sub-Legacies are the Legacies of your Legacies — essentially the grandparents of your current trainee. Their compatibility with your primary Legacies (parents) contributes additional points to your total affinity score. Filling all four Sub-Legacy slots with high-compatibility grandparents is essential for reaching Double Circle against difficult main character pairings. Each Sub-Legacy pair contributes independently.
Cygames has not officially published the full affinity formula. This calculator uses community-researched base compatibility values, the verified G1 bonus formula (+3 per shared G1 win per pair), and the threshold values for each rank (80 for Circle, 150 for Double Circle) that have been confirmed through extensive community testing and data mining. Results should be treated as accurate estimates for planning purposes.
For beginners, Circle (â—‹) is perfectly acceptable and will still provide meaningful Spark inheritance. Triangle (â–²) should be avoided whenever possible, as it significantly reduces your chances of getting bonus Sparks. Double Circle (â—Ž) is the ideal goal for experienced players who want to maximize stat inheritance and aptitude upgrades, but it requires more careful Legacy planning and veteran management.
Base compatibility values are determined by a combination of factors drawn from both the game’s anime lore and real-world horse racing history. Characters that are historical rivals, stablemates, or have a blood-relation analogue tend to have higher preset compatibility. Shared surface aptitude (Turf/Dirt), race distance preference, running style, and dormitory/classroom groupings all contribute additional compatibility bonuses.
